Strengthening naional capacity for effective coordination and domestication ofinternational treaties
The project strengthens the capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to effectively coordinate ratifications of international treaties, conventions and protocols as well as domestication and regular reporting as stipulated in various conventions, treaties and protocols. These to be achieveD though: Supporting finalization of the Database and necessary development capacities; and training Government of Botswana (GoB )staff and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on treaty / convention processes and implications as well as reporting.
Botswana has committed itself to establish a National Human Rights Institution and prepare an action plan as a flow -up to the UPR process which was completed in June 2013.The process is unfolding not at the pace it was anticipated. The Country Office is actively consulting with the Government of Botswana, other UN Agencies and Development Partners to move the process forward.
Project funding and implementation
The project is funded through cost sharing arrangement between UNDP and Government of Botswana.It is implemented in partnership with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Civil Society Organizations ( Botswana Centre for Human Rights).
