UN 69th Anniversary: UN Botswana Opens HouseOct 28, 2014
The United Nations (UN) in Botswana will open its doors to the public and invited guests on Friday, 31 October 2014 for an informative day to highlight its work with the Government of Botswana. The UN Botswana Open House event, which is a celebration of the United Nations Day, provides an opportunity for visitors to interact with UN staff on the role of the UN in Botswana and results achieved, resonating with the theme of the event: Catalyzing Development Efforts in Botswana.
Every year, the UN holds events on October 24th to commemorate the signing of the United Nations Charter in 1945. UN Day provides a unique opportunity for the world to celebrate and reflect on key development issues, results achieved and the way forward.
Activities for the UN Open House day in Botswana will include seminars on the work the UN does nationally, but also internationally including its work on human rights, environment, gender, education, health, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Post-2015 Development Agenda and the development of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There will also be information stalls and exhibitions, walk-in-and-ask sessions, HIV testing and counseling as part of a “Condomize” Campaign. Different Radio and TV programmes have also been organized to share with the wider public on the UN contribution to development efforts in Botswana.
“This is a unique opportunity for the United Nations to engage with the local community and introduce them to our work and programmes. The idea is to showcase what the UN is doing in the country and what the UN stands for as an organization to increase the general understanding of our work” said Mr. Anders Pedersen, the UN Resident Coordinator for Botswana.
The event will be held at the UN Building from 0800hrs to 1300hrs. For more information kindly visit the UN in Botswana Facebook page on www.facebook.com/UNinBotswana or follow @UN_Botswana and the #UNOpenHouse on Twitter
