United Nations Development Programme and Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism to Host First National Stakeholder Workshop on Biodiversity FinanceMay 12, 2017
On the 16th May 2017 at 8.30AM, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism (MENT) will hold a National Stakeholder Workshop on Biodiversity Finance at Crest Lodge, Gaborone.
Since 2014, Botswana as one of the 30 pilot countries has been implementing The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), a UNDP-managed global partnership that supports countries to enhance their financial management for biodiversity and ecosystem through making use of three detailed country-level assessments to develop a biodiversity finance plan. Initial assessments have concluded and the evidence based results are ready to be shared.
UNDP therefore invites the media to a stakeholder’s workshop which will bring together professional and technical experts from the private sector, civil society organizations, government and learning institutions. The workshop will provide a platform to share information on the progress of the project, facilitate the next phase that focuses on the development of a mix of possible finance solutions, forming consensus on and piloting some of the solutions for biodiversity conservation and management as per the Revised National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) NBSAP, 2016. Opportunities for collaboration between the private sector and civil society on conservation activities will also be identified.
Media attendance at the National Stakeholder Workshop on Biodiversity Finance is most welcome.
