The United Nations Development Programme, UNDP is proud to be supporting - the Department of Gender Affairs and the Department of Tribal Administration in the training of 53 Dikgosi from the 9 villages of Chobe district in Kasane from the 3rd to 5th September 2019 at Wild View Resort.

The proposed training will focus on Gender Based Violence. There will be lots of discussion over the three days on the role that the Dikgosi can play in preventing GBV. The facilitators will encourage lots of discussion around our culture and talk about how it may unintentionally contribute to GBV. It will also discuss how strong our culture is on saying that GBV is not part of it.! There will be a lawyer in the team explaining the legal implications of GBV. There will be many fictitious but real case examples discussed so that lessons can be learnt. There will also be many examples about what causes or triggers GBV and how these can be avoided. The role of the immediate family will be discussed as will the extended family including in-laws and their role in preventing GBV. Likewise, the role of the community will be discussed at length

This will be followed by lots of discussions around how to respond to an incident and the services that are available and how these can be reached even for remote areas.

It promises to be a very interesting GBV training.  Please follow us through the week 3- 5th September where we will be sharing how the training is going. This training will be provided to all Dikgosi in every district over the coming months

Simultaneously, we invite you where you are, to start the conversation around how to prevent GBV. Be a champion in your family and your community on preventing GBV

The media is invited to attend and cover the event.

Regards
