Pandas Naming Competition

Two baby pandas are the first ever UNDP Animal Ambassadors for the Sustainable Development Goals. The UNDP HQ Communications Team has partnered with the UNDP China Country Office to launch a campaign to promote the SDGs around the world with a competition to name the two panda cubs.

The campaign aims to engage new audiences on the SDGs by inviting people to learn about the SDGs in order to make and enter a short video explaining any of the Goals and why it is important to them. The creators of the most imaginative videos will win a trip to Chengdu to meet the pandas and be named UNDP Panda Champions for the Goals.

The campaign launch featured the recent visit to the Chengdu Panda Base by our Goodwill Ambassador, Michelle Yeoh, and promoted by over 20 zoos in countries around the world, including in South East Asia, Japan, South Africa, Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia.

UNDP country offices are encouraged to join the campaign by having their audiences visit to learn more about the SDGs.
