Economic Diversification and Inclusive Growth

The Economic Diversification and Inclusive Growth (EDIG) Portfolio is a four-year (2017-2020) integrated programme that is geared towards supporting the Government of Botswana to address the challenges of economic diversification, the sources of economic growth and exporter development, eradication of poverty, reducing inequality and exclusion, local economic development and SMMEs development through a Supplier Development Programme.

The programme is aligned to the development objectives of the Botswana Vision 2036 and its Eleventh National Development Plan (NDP 11) as well as the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 1- End poverty in all its forms everywhere; Goal 8 - Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all; Goal 9 - Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation and Goal 10 - Reduce inequality within and among countries.

INVESTED IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES

In 2016, 810 environment projects were under way in 143 countries, representing a grant investment of $3.13 billion. The grants leveraged another $14.12 billion in cofinancing for environment and sustainable development priorities in these countries.
